A Gateway View into the Rugged Wilderness of Kullu & Lahaul Valleys.
02 Nights – 03 Days · The Ideal Gateway Trek - Test Your Endurance Near Manali.
Drive: 13 km (~45 minutes) from Manali to Solang Village / Burwa
Trek Distance: ~5 km
Time Required: 3 - 4 hours
Altitude Gain: 3,050 m
Difficulty: Moderate gradual uphill climb
The Trail & Experience: The package begins with a morning pickup from your stay in Manali. You will take a short, beautiful mountain drive along the Beas River up to Solang Village (near the popular Solang Valley). Here, you meet your trek guide and support team to gear up.
The trail kicks off with a steady, uphill climb starting right from the village. You will quickly dive into a dense, fairy-tale forest filled with ancient oak, pine, and massive deodar trees. The shade keeps the hike cool, though the steady incline will warm you up. After a few hours of climbing, the dense tree canopy completely clears out into the beautiful high-altitude alpine meadow of Shagadugh.
Highlights & Camp Life:
Trek Distance: ~7 - 8 km
Time Required: 6 - 8 hours
Altitude Gain: 4,220 m
Difficulty: Strenuous; steep mountain ridge and potential snow/scree walking
The Trail & Experience: Wake up before dawn around 5:00 AM for an early breakfast. To successfully stand on the summit with clear skies, an early start is non-negotiable. Leaving the heavy bags at camp, you will carry only a light daypack. The trail immediately pushes up a steep ridge line above the meadow line.
As you break past the tree line into the alpine zone, the wind picks up and the incline sharpens. Depending on the season (early summer), you may encounter patches of crisp snow, while later months present a mix of alpine grass and loose scree. The final push to the narrow summit of Patalsu Peak is physically demanding but deeply rewarding. From the top, you get a jaw-dropping, close-up panorama of the snow-clad Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges. After spending some time taking photos and soaking in the heights, you will carefully descend back to the safety of the Shagadugh camp.
Highlights & Camp Life:
Trek Distance: ~4.5 km
Time Required: 2 - 3 hours
Drive: 13 km (~45 minutes) to Manali
Difficulty: Easy continuous descent
The Trail: Enjoy a relaxed morning in the meadow. After breakfast, you will break camp, pack up the tents, and begin the continuous downward trek back through the oak and pine forests. Because it is an all-downhill route, you will descend quickly, arriving back at the road-head in Solang Village by midday.
Your vehicle will be waiting at the village to drive you back to Manali. You will typically arrive back in town by 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM—perfect timing to easily catch an overnight Volvo coach out of the valley or check back into your local riverside stay.
⚠️ Important Note: Don't let the short distance fool you—Patalsu Peak involves a relentless, continuous climb. You gain roughly 1,700 meters (5,500 feet) over just 13 to 14 km of trail, ascending from Solang Valley (2,500 m) straight to the summit (4,220 m). Because there are virtually no flat stretches to catch your breath, the steep gradient demands strong leg endurance and careful pacing to avoid Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).
